Dayhike

Went to Benton Falls on Chilhowee Mt, for a 3 mile hike.
Was a nice cool day, and the falls was a mere trickle of its
normal self. Too many people as well. No sense of solitude
except in a few short periods. The inevitable rehashing of
the bear killing on this trail ensued with my dad. Amazing
to think such panic and horror could occur out of nowhere
in such a peaceful place. That juxtaposition is what seems
so imposing, not necessarily the tragedy itself. Of course
for the mother who lost her child, and had to fend of a
murderous stinking wild animal, incapable of mercy, that
tragedy must be all-present and looming, in her mind.
Did not see any sort of memorial, but may have missed it.
Better to forget, I guess. Not remind the tourists that their
safe happy worlds are not quite so safe.
